NOTES FROM THE SEEDMAKER
Yesca is an OG cut that I got right before the PURP craze fully took over the market again. My buddy–who also keeps the PK cut–converted to growing it after only growing PK as his OG ‘production cut’ for 10 years strong (so I figured it had to be pretty good!).
It’s all OG but with more vigor, sturdiness, faster rooting and bigger yields–all while maintaining a very nice OG nose and flavor. Most people say it’s just straight OG when they see the flower but the plant itself is way better growing than any OG cut I’ve grown.
It seems closer to the Skywalker than any other OG cut but I haven’t seen them side by side to tell if they’re the same or not and I’m pretty sure they’re different at this point (but likely closely related).
They both grow faster and have bigger seeds than other OG cuts I’ve grown. I think if the OG market had stayed stronger, this cut would’ve dominated the gas market in Humboldt and Mendo by now because it’s so easy to grow.
I used an F3 Jaro male on a bunch of my favorite clones and the Yesca stood out on paper as the one I should test first. I grew out a couple packs worth and almost every plant was what I’d hoped for–big plants, sturdy for OG plus an OG nose with Sour / Afi influences from the Jaro.
I’ll breed them forward toward my favorite types but in these F1s you’ll get the opportunity to choose a nuanced direction to breed or clone from the broader gene pool. These would be monsters as full term outdoor plants.
As with all OG crosses expect to get a plant or two with less vigor–in my experience those tend to be killer flower (albeit with weak root systems). I usually kill them myself but when I keep them I’m usually impressed by the flavors.
I’d pull a male out of these to hit anything, they’re cool kush plants that I was very happy with in my dep. In my testing light dep run where I grew these I had over 50 promising crosses and these stood out in the top 5.
This is definitely one of the best OG type seed lines I’ve made or grown.
NOTES ABOUT MEAN GENE’S DOLORES FREEBIE
Dolores is a Pure Mexican–not long flowering, very hardy and does good in pretty rough weather.
I got them from my friends Shawn and David – they came from their friend down by Big Sur that has had them since way back, at least the 70s.
Light green and frosty looking, it reminds me of our old northern lights clone. It should breed well with modern stuff (untested indoors but I’d try it since it never herms outdoors).
Most are taller with more narrow leaves but not extreme narrow leaf, a few have slightly broader leaves and more round golf ball nugs but I used my two favorite tall narrow males to make these.
Most of these need support because the buds are fairly dense and resinous and the stems aren’t robust. They have resin that can likely wash but the heads aren’t as big as I’d like to see for a hash plant. I’d expect them to cross we’ll with something with bigger heads though to make hash hybrids since they’re very resinous and not greasy. Screened hash from them has the nice yellow color I remember from the 80s and 90s.
