Extremely vigorous and highly sought after throughout 2019, the original Lava Cake was released by Cannarado as a cross between Thin Mint GSC and Grape Pie, with several breeders making crosses using the hot cultivar, and Phinest Genetics even using tissue culture techniques to create an entire line of feminized seeds based on the Lava Cake. The original Lava Cake, also known as Lava Cake #11, has a particularly high number of excellent, keeper phenotypes in each pack. Definitely more than are usually found in a single pack of regular seeds. I think it’s pretty fascinating that 707 is releasing a strain with an identical name, and even one of the same cultivars (Thin Mint) used in the cross. The only difference is the use of the excellent 707 Chemdawg instead of Grape Pie. The original was supposed to have a chocolaty taste, just like Chocolate Lava Cake, with its liquid chocolate center. However the Grape Pie made the original Lava Cake far fruitier than the classic hot dessert. IMHO 707’s Lava Cake has a far more likely chance to have a chocolate taste, thanks to the earthiness and fuel tastes inherent in the Chemdawg group of cultivars. But it remains to be seen whose Lava Cake will truly resemble the desert more.
